What is Shellfish Free?
This website is for people with a shellfish allergy that are looking for a place to eat out that won't send them to the morgue. It should be noted that a shellfish allergy and a seafood allergy may or may not be the same. All seafood should be avoided because of cross contamination. Shellfish category includes: shrimp, crab, lobster and crayfish. Mollusks are usually included in this list. Mollusks are clams, mussels, oysters and scallops. Click here to see listings of restaurants by state.
Why was Shellfish Free Created?
I have noticed that more and more
restaurants are serving shellfish and it is becoming increasingly hard to find a
nice sit-down restaurant that does not serve some form of it. Since I have a
shellfish allergy that has progressively became acute over the last 20 years,
found it necessary to compile a list of restaurants that do not prepare or serve
it.
I have found that at my stage of the allergy, any form and any amount ingested
,no matter how small will cause a symptoms to be displayed. Some areas of
contamination that have caused problems are: backyard grills of friends and
families, tuna, mackerel, vitamins, glucosmine, a kiss from the spouse (after
eating shellfish that day).
Please use the information contained on this website to help make your everyday
life easier. But remember, menus can change without warning. Always consult the
chef, manager, or owner of an establishment before eating.
Sincerely,
